Latvia MEP Vaidere Calls for Review of K2 Ventum Wind Farm Project
Latvia's MEP Inese Vaidere has urged government officials to evaluate the K2 Ventum wind farm project in Dienvidkurzeme, citing potential threats to national security and public trust. The project proposes 46 wind turbines along the Baltic Sea coast, close to Pavilosta, conflicting with local development strategies.
Vaidere emphasizes the need for designated areas for wind farms and transparency regarding public contributions and safety measures. Concerns include the lack of clear financial guarantees, potential costs to taxpayers, and the project's compliance with local spatial plans. The Defense Ministry has stated that any construction in the area must include compensatory solutions not yet disclosed to the public.
