Latvia Moves Forward with Purchase of Archer Howitzers from Sweden
Latvia's government has approved a report to purchase 'Archer' wheeled artillery systems from Sweden, aiming to enhance its National Armed Forces' indirect fire capabilities. Following a letter of intent signed in June 2022 for 18 systems, a defense cooperation roadmap will be established, focusing on joint training and the deployment of the systems by 2026, with a budget of 159 million euros allocated for this purpose.

On January 13, the Latvian government supported a report on purchasing 'Archer' wheeled artillery systems for the National Armed Forces. The acquisition aims to enhance indirect fire capabilities and strengthen Latvia's cooperation with Sweden.
In June 2022, Latvia signed a letter of intent with Sweden for 18 'Archer' systems. A defense cooperation roadmap will be signed on January 16, focusing on joint training and the deployment of 'Archer' systems in Latvia from 2026.
In the interim, a joint 'Archer' 6x6 unit will be formed for joint exercises. The 2026 defense budget allocates 159 million euros for indirect fire support.
