Latvia Transfers SENTINEL Radars to Lithuania for Enhanced NASAMS Systems
Lithuania will receive SENTINEL radars from Latvia to enhance its NASAMS air defense systems, free of charge. This transfer follows a proposal from the U.S. and aims to improve aerial target detection and tracking capabilities amid regional security concerns.

Lithuania's NASAMS medium-range air defense systems will be upgraded with SENTINEL radars provided by Latvia at no cost. This decision aligns with Latvia's shift to alternative air defense systems, following a U.S. proposal.
The transfer is significant as Lithuania is currently advancing through its second procurement phase for NASAMS, which it first received in 2020. Concurrently, the reduction of U.S. troops in Estonia, now below 100, raises concerns about NATO's military commitment in Europe amidst high tensions with Russia.
Security analysts indicate a continued risk of hybrid warfare from Russia, while NATO's new defense initiatives may take years to implement, potentially leaving frontline states vulnerable. The U.S. military's repositioning reflects a broader strategy to counter China and could impact NATO's deterrence efficacy.
