Latvia's Rail Baltica Project Faces Financial and Structural Challenges
Latvian MPs express concerns over the Rail Baltica project's financial viability and structural planning, suggesting a reevaluation. The current completion date of 2030 is deemed unrealistic amidst budget constraints and shifting priorities.

Latvian MPs are questioning the financial and structural plans for the Rail Baltica project, with the completion date set for 2030 considered unrealistic. Current discussions in the Saeima indicate a lack of allocated funding, despite two-thirds of deputies supporting the initiative.
Concerns have been raised about the project's extensive costs and its inability to connect major cities, particularly Riga. MPs suggest that resources may need to be redirected, as future state budgets are expected to prioritize defense spending.
Additionally, there are calls for increased collaboration with Estonian counterparts to address funding challenges. The frequent changes in leadership within the Ministry of Transport further complicate the project's progress.
