Launch of Spirit of Shackleton Youth Development Yacht by President Connolly
The Spirit of Shackleton yacht will be launched on May 15 in Dún Laoghaire, aimed at youth education and ocean leadership. Designed as a floating classroom, it will also participate in June's Round Ireland Race, enhancing sail training opportunities.
On May 15, the Spirit of Shackleton youth development yacht will be officially launched at Dún Laoghaire Harbour Plaza, with President Catherine Connolly presiding. Hosted by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and the Atlantic Shackleton Global Foundation, the event will feature the Irish Army Band and aims to inspire future ocean leaders through educational initiatives aboard the 70-foot clipper race yacht.
Named after explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, the vessel will also compete in the Round Ireland Race in June, integrating sail training with real-world scientific exploration. This initiative may significantly impact maritime education and youth engagement in oceanic studies.
