Lawmakers Demand Details on Pentagon's $23 Billion Golden Dome Spending Plan
Lawmakers are seeking more details from Pentagon leaders regarding the $23 billion allocated for the Golden Dome project. The House and Senate report indicates the Pentagon has not provided necessary cost, schedule, and performance metrics.
The project, initially announced by President Trump, is projected to cost $175 billion over three years. The 2026 appropriations bill includes funding for related programs, such as $1.4 billion for the Next-Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared program.
Lawmakers have directed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to submit a comprehensive spending plan within two months, detailing obligations and expenditures for fiscal years 2025-2027. Additionally, Golden Dome Director Gen. Michael Guetlein is required to provide quarterly updates on the program's status, aiming for initial capabilities by 2028.
