Lemonthyme Power Station Upgrade Reaches Milestone in $62M Project
The Lemonthyme Power Station upgrade in Tasmania, valued at $62 million, is over 50% complete. This project is crucial for enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the Mersey-Forth Hydropower scheme, which contributes 10% of the state's energy supply.

The upgrade to the Lemonthyme Power Station, a key facility within the Mersey-Forth Hydropower scheme, has surpassed the halfway point with an investment of $62 million. This upgrade will extend the power station's operational life by 30 years and includes the installation of a new turbine runner, main inlet valve, distributor, and a full electrical system overhaul.
Currently, the station operates at a capacity of 54 MW, with the broader Mersey-Forth scheme generating 290 MW. The project is set for completion by the end of 2026, with subsequent upgrades to the Fisher station commencing in 2027. Local contractors are involved in various aspects of the project, contributing to the overall efficiency of Tasmania's energy infrastructure.
