Omega Proteins, a facility of Leo Group in Penrith, processes 1,250,000 tonnes of animal by-products annually, supplying raw materials for industries such as pet food, biofuels, and cosmetics. The site has seen substantial investments in carbon reduction initiatives over the last four years, including solar energy, a multi-fuel thermal oxidiser, and a biomass energy plant, producing 21MW per hour of thermal energy and 45,000MW of electricity.
Additionally, a wastewater treatment plant has been implemented to enhance water recycling. These efforts aim to reduce the company's carbon footprint and minimize community complaints regarding odors, thereby improving local relations. The long-term strategy focuses on continuous reinvestment and sustainability.
