Leonardo has acquired Iveco Defense Vehicles (Idv) for €1.7 billion, transitioning from a supplier to an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) in the land defense sector. This strategic move enhances Italy's autonomy in equipping its armed forces and allows Leonardo to integrate Idv's vehicle capabilities with its own electronic and sensor systems. The acquisition complements Leonardo's existing joint venture with Rheinmetall for heavy armored vehicles, positioning the company to cover the full spectrum of land defense capabilities.
