Leonardo Advances RISC-V Architecture and Defense Cloud Technologies for European Security
Leonardo is involved in multiple EU-funded projects aimed at enhancing defense capabilities and integrated circuit design. Key initiatives include the development of the RISC-V architecture for open-source integrated circuits, a strategic command and control system utilizing AI and cloud computing, and a multi-domain virtual platform for military operations. Additionally, projects like J-CUAS focus on integrated anti-drone solutions, while SEAFENCE aims to protect critical infrastructures through advanced sensor networks.

Leonardo is developing the RISC-V architecture to create an open-source ecosystem for integrated circuits, enhancing European competitiveness. The Horizon Europe project includes a software platform and demonstrator focused on robotics and smart cities.
The European Defence Fund supports a strategic command and control system combining AI and cloud technologies, aiming for interoperability with EU and NATO systems. Starting in January 2023, a multi-domain virtual platform will improve military operational efficiency.
The J-CUAS project, completed in November 2022, developed an anti-drone system. Future plans include SEAFENCE, an early warning system for critical infrastructure, expected to start in 2025.
