Leonardo DRS Completes First On-Orbit Test of XCM3-Space Secure Data Transport System

Leonardo DRS, Inc. has successfully conducted the first on-orbit test of its eXtended Crypto Module3-Space (XCM3-Space) multi-channel software-defined radio (SDR) with integrated advanced cryptography. Launched aboard a Proteus Mercury satellite in late November, the XCM3-Space operated in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), meeting all primary objectives.

This technology aims to enhance secure U.S. military satellite data transport at the tactical edge, addressing emerging cyber and electronic warfare threats. Developed in under twelve months, the system features a fully reprogrammable architecture designed to support future secure transport needs for U.S. defense agencies.

A second system is set for launch in 2026 for further testing of edge processing capabilities. In recent financial results, Leonardo DRS reported Q3 2025 revenue of $960 million, an 18% increase year-over-year, and raised its full-year revenue guidance to $3.55 billion to $3.6 billion.
