Leonardo Launches Programme for Recovery of Strategic Raw Materials in Europe
Leonardo has launched a program to recover metal scraps from its production sites, aiming to create a sustainable supply chain for titanium, aluminum, and magnesium in Europe. This initiative supports the Critical Raw Materials Act by reducing dependence on external imports and promoting the use of high-recycled-content secondary raw materials, utilizing advanced technologies to ensure quality feedstock for foundries and steelworks. The project's construction phase is currently underway, focusing on minimizing waste and enhancing material traceability for aeronautical and defense applications.

Leonardo has initiated a program focused on recovering metal scraps from its production sites to establish a sustainable supply chain for titanium, aluminium, and magnesium in Europe. This initiative aligns with the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA) by reducing reliance on imports outside the EU and promoting the use of secondary raw materials with high recycled content.
The program employs advanced cleaning, separation, and briquetting technologies to convert scraps into certified by-products, ensuring high-quality feedstock for foundries and steelworks. This effort aims to minimize waste, enhance material traceability, and provide raw materials suitable for aeronautical and defense applications, thus strengthening supply chain resilience. The construction phase of the project is currently underway.
