Leonardo to Demonstrate Michelangelo Dome Project in Ukraine as Part of European Defense Initiative
Leonardo plans to showcase aspects of its Michelangelo Dome project in Ukraine in 2026, focusing on air and missile defense. The first component is under construction and aims to counter low-flying threats. NATO trials are scheduled for 2027. The project includes the Space Guardian Earth-observation system, expected to be operational by 2028. Leonardo is engaging with 20 countries to implement the system, forecasted to generate €6 billion in opportunities by 2030 and €15 billion from 2031-2035.

Leonardo intends to demonstrate its Michelangelo Dome project in Ukraine, focusing on air and missile defense, with the initial component under construction. This defense architecture will target low-flying threats, like drones.
NATO trials are planned for 2027. The project will utilize the Space Guardian Earth-observation constellation, becoming operational in 2028, while other components will reach capability around 2030. Leonardo is collaborating with 20 nations to facilitate an integrated defense system.
The project is projected to create €6 billion in business opportunities by 2030 and an additional €15 billion from 2031-2035. The company aims for €30 billion in sales by 2030.
