Leonardo's AW249 Fenice Helicopter Set for 2027 Deliveries to Italian Army
The AW249 Fenice, an 8.3-tonne attack helicopter developed by Leonardo for the Italian Army, is on schedule for qualification and initial deliveries in 2027. The program has achieved over 1,000 flight hours with positive feedback on maneuverability. Recent developments include an optimized canopy for better visibility, enhanced cockpit ergonomics, and ballistic tolerance. The helicopter will integrate with unmanned systems and is powered by GE CT7-8E6 engines. The Italian Ministry of Defence plans to acquire 48 units, with production already underway.
