Less Common Metals Establishes Rare Earth Processing Plant in Lacq, France
Less Common Metals has announced the establishment of a rare earth processing plant in Lacq, France, set to begin operations by 2027. This facility, with a production capacity of 3,750 metric tons per year, aims to reduce reliance on China and will support the upcoming Caremag recycling plant. The project has garnered local and national support, including financial aid through a new tax credit for green industry investments.

Less Common Metals has officially announced the establishment of a rare earth processing plant in Lacq, France, on January 20, 2025. The UK-based company, acquired by USA Rare Earth, specializes in metals and alloys from rare earth oxides, a critical sector for industries such as automotive, aerospace, defense, energy, and electronics.
This initiative aims to reduce dependence on China by developing a value chain outside of it. The facility will have a production capacity of 3,750 metric tons per year and will support the upcoming Caremag recycling plant, set to commence operations in late 2026.
The project has received local and national support, including direct aid under a new tax credit for green industry investments. The LCM plant is expected to be operational by 2027, with plans to attract additional industrial players to the region.
