LG&E is nearing completion of a 12-mile natural gas pipeline in Bullitt County, which began construction in April 2025. Crews are currently injecting mercaptan into the pipeline for safety, making gas leaks detectable.

The pipeline will help serve areas experiencing population growth, including Mt. Washington and Shepherdsville. LG&E has started contacting customers previously denied natural gas service.

Bernheim Forest has opposed the project, citing environmental concerns, but the Kentucky Supreme Court declined to hear their lawsuit. The project is set to be finished by the end of February 2026.
