Liberty Bay FLNG Plans $1 Billion Floating LNG Project in Mexico or Argentina
Liberty Bay FLNG targets a 1.4 million metric ton/year floating LNG project in Mexico or Argentina, set for startup in late 2029 or early 2030. The project aims to leverage lessons from previous ventures to ensure timely and efficient development amid fluctuating global LNG prices.
Liberty Bay FLNG is planning a floating LNG project with a capacity of 1.4 million metric tons per year, targeting completion by late 2029 or early 2030. The estimated project cost is around $1 billion, with a planned development timeline of approximately 30 months from the final investment decision.
The project will utilize a newly built jackup rig on a single platform, differing from the approach taken by the Altamira LNG facility. This project is expected to enhance LNG supply flexibility and help companies diversify their portfolios amid ongoing geopolitical supply disruptions. The company anticipates submitting a permit application by early 2027 and is currently negotiating potential offtake agreements in India and Europe.
