In January 1979, Libya deployed 2,500 troops to support the Uganda Army during the conflict with Tanzania. The war began after Uganda's incursion into northern Tanzania in October 1978, leading to Tanzania declaring war on Uganda. The Tanzanian People's Defence Force (TPDF) and allied Ugandan groups, including Kikoosi Maalum and Fronasa, launched attacks against the Uganda Army. Libyan forces arrived with heavy military equipment, aiming to bolster Uganda's defense. The conflict resulted in significant territorial gains for TPDF and its allies.
