LIG Nex1 has introduced the KM-SAM system for Malaysia's Medium Range Air Defence (MERAD) under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), targeting a 2026 procurement timeline. This system integrates anti-ballistic missile capabilities with existing Short Range Air Defence Systems (SHORADS) to enhance air defense resilience.
The KM-SAM, developed by the Agency for Defense Development, is available in two configurations, Block I and Block II, with engagement ranges up to 50 kilometers. LIG Nex1 plans to establish Malaysia as a Southeast Asian operational hub, including local technology transfer and production. This initiative represents a significant shift in Malaysia's air defense strategy, incorporating layered defense against a range of aerial threats.
