Lingkong Tianxing Technology Begins Mass Production of $99,000 Mach 7 Hypersonic Missiles
Beijing-based Lingkong Tianxing Technology has started mass-producing Mach 7 hypersonic missiles, the YKJ-1000, priced at approximately $99,000 each. This cost is significantly lower than comparable systems, which can exceed $4 million per unit. The missile boasts a range of 500 to 1,300 kilometers and speeds between Mach 5 and Mach 7. Its design allows for autonomous guidance and evasive maneuvers, raising concerns about the implications for global defense strategies as it shifts the balance in the arms race.

Lingkong Tianxing Technology has commenced mass production of the YKJ-1000 hypersonic missile, priced at $99,000, significantly less than U.S. interceptors costing millions. The missile can travel 500 to 1,300 kilometers at speeds of Mach 5 to Mach 7 and maintains powered flight for six minutes.
It is designed for rapid manufacturing using commercially available components. The company claims the missile can perform evasive maneuvers and operate in coordinated multi-missile launches. Lingkong Tianxing is also exploring civilian applications, including a Mach 5 aircraft for fast global travel, with tests planned for 2027. This development poses potential challenges for current defense strategies as low-cost hypersonic weapons could alter the dynamics of offense and defense.
