Llanfoist Fawr Primary School in Monmouthshire has initiated a composting project to reduce food waste, utilizing a hybrid system of Bokashi fermentation and aerobic composting. This initiative, backed by Monmouthshire County Council, aims to improve environmental awareness among students.
The project addresses the challenge of composting lunch waste, particularly cooked food and plate scrapings, which traditional methods cannot handle. The Bokashi process ferments waste, controlling odors and reducing methane emissions, before transferring it to a Ridan aerobic composter for further processing. The project is funded by the Monmouthshire Food Partnership and the Shared Prosperity Fund, with technical support from Agriton UK.
