Local Resistance Groups Capture Key Locations in Myanmar's Budalin Amid Junta Elections
Local resistance groups in Myanmar's Budalin have captured key junta strongholds, including a general administration office and police station, in a coordinated attack planned three months in advance. The operation forced junta troops to retreat, although airstrikes by regime aircraft halted ground fighting temporarily. This escalation coincides with the junta's controversial election phase, widely deemed fraudulent.

Local resistance groups seized three junta strongpoints in Budalin, Sagaing Region, on Sunday, according to the anti-regime group Rocket Fighter. The targeted locations included the township general administration office, police station, and a private school, attacked simultaneously in the early morning.
The operation was planned three months prior, resulting in junta troops fleeing the sites, which they later regrouped at three remaining military outposts. Ground fighting paused on Monday due to airstrikes by regime aircraft.
A fresh offensive is being prepared to capture the remaining junta bases. This confrontation coincided with the junta's election phase, dismissed as fraudulent both domestically and internationally. Heavy clashes were also reported in Katha town, where fighting between People's Defense Forces and junta troops extended to the town center.
