Lockheed Martin to Increase THAAD Interceptor Production to 400 Annually Under Pentagon Agreement

DEFENSE

Lockheed Martin has signed a seven-year agreement with the US Department of Defense to quadruple its production of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptors from 96 to 400 annually. This decision is in response to increased demand amid escalating military tensions, particularly concerning potential conflicts with Iran and China.

To support this ramp-up, Lockheed will establish a new Munitions Acceleration Center in Camden, Arkansas, and plans to invest over $5 billion in production enhancements across multiple states, including Alabama, Florida, Massachusetts, and Texas. The THAAD system, which is crucial for missile defense, will see more interceptors available than ever before, bolstering US military capabilities. This agreement follows a previous deal to significantly boost production of PAC-3 interceptors, with Lockheed committed to supporting the Pentagon's push for increased defense readiness.
