Lompoc Unified School District has been awarded a $45.4 million grant for the renovation and construction of Manzanita Public Charter School, which is part of a total project budget of $60.5 million. This initiative, funded through the Department of War's Public Schools on Military Installations Program, aims to resolve facility deficiencies that placed the school at #40 on the 2019 Deputy Secretary of Defense Priority List.
The project will support 522 students in transitional kindergarten through sixth grade and is expected to enhance educational quality for defense-connected families. The Federal Evaluation Team, comprising representatives from the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation, confirmed the necessity of this funding for the identified issues. Successful completion of this project will also contribute to improved retention of skilled personnel at Vandenberg Space Force Base.
