Lithuania's railway electrification is set to rise from 28% to 38% by 2026, driven by the Vilnius-Klaipėda line and Rail Baltica. LTG Infra's CEO, Vytis Žalimas, emphasizes sustainability as a core principle, with plans for battery trains and smart grid solutions. The country aims to significantly reduce diesel use, targeting nearly 80% of rail traffic to be electric. The initiative is supported by EU funding, projecting socio-economic benefits of €700 million over the project's lifetime.

Lithuania's railway electrification is progressing from 28% to 38% by 2026, with the Vilnius-Klaipėda railway and Rail Baltica projects driving this change. LTG Infra will introduce the Baltics' first battery train charging station, and if trials are successful, battery trains could cover nearly 80% of rail traffic.
EU support enables financing for this modernization, projected to yield €700 million in socio-economic benefits. LTG Infra is also testing smart grid solutions and sustainable sleepers, while exploring hydrogen-powered locomotives for cargo. The shift emphasizes leadership in sustainability despite challenges.
