Luna Robotics Develops Night-Vision Camera to Track Smuggling Balloons in Lithuania
Luna Robotics has created a night-vision camera system enabling drones to detect and intercept smuggling balloons. The startup funded the project independently after failing to qualify for a government innovation contest. The camera aids drone operators by providing visual navigation cues, making nighttime operations as effective as daytime. The technology has been tested with the Lithuanian military, and while focused on smuggling balloons, it could be adapted for other aerial threats. The Lithuanian Ministry of Economy is evaluating proposals from other companies to address this issue.

Luna Robotics has developed a night-vision camera system for drones to detect smuggling balloons, funded independently after not qualifying for a government innovation contest. The camera enhances nighttime drone operations, providing operators with navigation cues.
The technology was tested with the Lithuanian military, which expressed interest in further collaboration. The Ministry of Economy has a €1 million competition for solutions to counter smuggling balloons, with three companies selected for consortia.
The ministry is expected to announce the effectiveness of this investment soon. Luna Robotics did not participate due to eligibility issues.
