Luxembourg Approves €300 Million Budget for GovSat-2 Military Satellite with Thales Alenia Space
Luxembourg's Chamber of Deputies has approved the GovSat-2 military satellite project with 57 votes in favor, reinforcing the country's commitment to collective defense. The satellite will enhance secure communications for EU and NATO partners globally, building on the capabilities of GovSat-1.
The Ministry of Defence highlighted the project's potential to boost the national high-tech sector. Construction will be undertaken by Thales Alenia Space, with a planned launch in 2029 using a European Ariane rocket, marking a shift from the previous SpaceX launch. The project has an initial budget of €300 million, with provisions allowing for an increase to €500 million to address risks and inflation.
