Luxembourg Government Increases Defence Spending for Economic Growth

The Luxembourg government is enhancing defense investments to generate local economic benefits, with a focus on sectors including software, telecommunications, and space. Economy Minister Lex Delles stated the intention to establish a clearer legal framework for the defense industry, which previously lacked clarity under existing regulations.

He emphasized the importance of local job creation and maintenance work by suppliers to ensure economic returns. Companies interested in the defense sector are being engaged, particularly around the former Liberty Steel site in Dudelange, where an incubator is planned.

Delles noted that while certain military manufacturers would not be established in Luxembourg, the country aims to foster growth in technology-driven sectors related to defense. The anticipated economic activities are expected to commence within the next nine to twelve months.
