Mabanaft to Construct Ammonia Import Terminal in Hamburg
Mabanaft plans to establish an ammonia import terminal in Hamburg with an annual handling capacity of approximately 600,000 tons. The project includes upgrading existing facilities and potential integration with hydrogen production, reflecting a shift towards renewable energy sources in the region.

Mabanaft is set to build a new ammonia import terminal at the Blumensand tank storage site in Hamburg, aiming for a capacity of around 600,000 tons annually. The project involves upgrading the existing dock for both inland and ocean vessels, with plans for rail tank car loading facilities.
Additionally, the terminal will be designed to accommodate lower-carbon and renewable ammonia, subject to market and regulatory conditions. Following the completion of necessary permits, construction is scheduled in two phases, with the first phase expected to finish by mid-2026.
The company also intends to retrofit existing tanks for methanol storage, starting in 2025, with operations planned to begin in 2027. This initiative may enhance the use of methanol in shipping and other transport sectors, highlighting Mabanaft's commitment to supporting the transition to sustainable fuel solutions.
