Macau's Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Raymond Tam, announced that the government is studying the potential introduction of hydrogen-powered vehicles. During a Legislative Assembly Q&A session, Tam acknowledged the benefits of these vehicles but expressed concerns about space limitations for constructing necessary refueling stations in Macau.
Hydrogen cars, or Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs), produce electricity on board with zero tailpipe emissions, offering quick refueling and a long range. Various models, including the Toyota Mirai and Hyundai Nexo, are in production and available in limited markets such as Japan, South Korea, Europe, and California.
Future developments include additional models and concepts from major brands, including hydrogen trucks from Toyota and high-performance vehicles from Hyundai. Startups like Riversimple and NamX have also introduced hydrogen vehicle concepts.
