Magnet Defense Begins Production of M48 Uncrewed Surface Vessel for 2027 Delivery
Magnet Defense has started production of the M48 uncrewed surface vessel (USV), with deliveries set for Q2 2027. The M48, developed over two years, is a medium-sized combat-capable vessel designed for open-ocean operations with a range of 17,000 nautical miles. It can self-deploy from San Diego to the Arabian Gulf without refueling. The platform shares systems with the Magnet Research Vessel prototype, which has logged over 1,000 days at sea. The M48 is equipped with DriveAI autonomy and supports various military missions.

The M48 is designed for extended operations in open-ocean environments, capable of traveling up to 17,000 nautical miles and self-deploying from San Diego to the Arabian Gulf without refueling. It is based on the hull and systems of the Magnet Research Vessel prototype, which has completed over 1,000 days at sea. Each M48 is equipped with DriveAI navigational autonomy and can perform various military missions, enhancing operational reach for joint forces.
