Maharashtra Plans Floating Solar Power Plants on Reservoirs to Enhance Renewable Energy

NOVEL RENEWABLE ENERGYSOLAR ENERGY

Maharashtra is set to implement floating solar power plants on its dam reservoirs to optimize sunlight without using farmland. The initiative, discussed at a 'Green Energy Utilisation' workshop in Pune, involves large floating solar panels on reservoirs managed by the Krishna and Godavari River Development Corporations.

This strategy addresses land acquisition challenges by utilizing water surfaces instead. The benefits include preserving farmland, reducing water evaporation, enhancing solar panel efficiency through cooling, and supporting rural communities with generated power.

The Water Resources Department will oversee the development, and private companies will be engaged to attract global investment. Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil noted potential shifts in control for the Krishna Valley Development Corporation, aligning with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's focus on smart irrigation.
