Maine PUC Sets New Water Rates for Loring Development Authority Customers
The Maine PUC has approved revised water rates for Loring Development Authority customers, effective April 1. This decision follows an investigation into the fairness of the previous rates, which were deemed excessive given the reduced customer base.

The Maine Public Utilities Commission has approved new water rates for customers of the Loring Development Authority, effective April 1. These revised rates are lower than those initially proposed and come after an investigation into the fairness of existing charges.
The water system, originally intended for the former Loring Air Force Base, currently serves only 22 customers, complicating cost distribution for maintenance. The commission has mandated that the authority bill customers based on accurate meter sizes while replacing oversized meters, with the authority covering the replacement costs. This decision may impact the financial viability of the water service as customer count remains low.
