Malawi Minister Assures Support to Flood Survivors in Nkhotakota District
Malawi's Minister of Transport and Public Works, Feston Kaupa, assured 250 families displaced by recent flooding in Nkhotakota of ongoing government support. His visit aimed to assess the situation and provide reassurance amid the aftermath of natural disasters affecting over 8000 households and resulting in four fatalities.
The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) has initiated emergency operations, distributing relief supplies including food and blankets, and conducting evacuations in high-risk areas. Kaupa emphasized the government's commitment to timely delivery of essentials and collaboration with the Malawi Defense Force and police to ensure food supply continuity. The local chief expressed gratitude for the government's prompt response, while DoDMA is enhancing disaster management plans and collaborating with partners on contingency strategies.
