Malaysia Partners with South Korea for Advanced Defense Technology Collaboration
Malaysia is set to enhance its defense capabilities through a partnership with South Korea, focusing on advanced military technology sharing. The collaboration includes the transfer of aerospace, cybersecurity, and AI defense technologies, alongside the establishment of local maintenance capabilities.

Malaysia will receive four FA-50M light multirole fighter jets from South Korea in October, with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) providing local Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities. The partnership will also explore metaverse-based training systems and the 'AI Virtual Pilot' system, which allows a manned aircraft to control three AI unmanned aerial vehicles.
Additionally, Hanwha Ocean is developing VR training infrastructure and advanced shipbuilding technologies, while HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has introduced a digital twin system for smart shipyard operations. Their MOU with Lumut Naval Shipyard aims to support Malaysia's naval vessel construction capacity, highlighting a strategic shift towards self-reliance in defense capabilities.
