Mammoet Secures Heavy-Lift Contract for Beccs Stockholm Project
Mammoet has been contracted by Saipem for heavy-lift operations at Beccs Stockholm, a significant carbon capture project. The facility, set to begin operations in 2028, aims to capture 800,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually, marking a major step in decarbonization efforts in Europe.
Mammoet will execute heavy-lift operations for the Beccs Stockholm project, which will capture and store 800,000 tonnes of CO₂ each year once operational in 2028. The project is backed by the European Innovation Fund and the Swedish government, with the site owned by Stockholm Exergi.
Mammoet's scope includes lifting approximately 23 components weighing between 50 and 280 tonnes, and two major components, the stripper and absorber, each weighing around 1,500 tonnes. These will be lifted using the Mammoet PTC 140 DS crane, capable of handling up to 5,000 tonnes.
The assembly of the crane must be completed within four weeks, followed by an installation phase of the same duration, and it will be disassembled in six weeks to allow for further construction. This project highlights the growing importance of large-scale carbon capture technologies in combating climate change.
