Manatee County Opens Gateway South Women's Recovery Center in Former Sheriff's Office
Manatee County has transformed a former Sheriff's Office building in Bradenton into the Gateway South shelter for women facing addiction and homelessness. This facility, located at 407 57th Ave. E., has begun accepting clients and is part of the county's 'Under One Roof' initiative to centralize services for vulnerable residents.
Gateway South focuses on women affected by trauma, substance abuse, and housing insecurity. It is staffed by Helping Up Mission and collaborates with local organizations such as Turning Points and the Salvation Army to provide healthcare and support services.
Funding for the renovation came from opioid settlement funds, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's HOME-ARP Program, and county contributions. The shelter features trauma-informed accommodations and therapeutic spaces designed to foster a sense of safety and empowerment for its clients.
