Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew announced support for Crown Royal jobs and a clean energy project at the Diageo-owned distillery in Gimli. Diageo plans to replace natural gas boilers with electric systems, with Manitoba Hydro constructing a new 20-kilometre transmission line.
The project, costing $19 million, is fully funded by Diageo, with construction beginning in January and completion expected by 2027. Kinew also urged Ontario Premier Doug Ford to reconsider a planned boycott of Crown Royal following Diageo's closure of an Ontario bottling plant, which affects 200 jobs. The Gimli facility employs about 76 people and produces Crown Royal whisky.
