Masdar Signs Power Purchase Agreement for 150MW Quipungo Solar Project in Angola
Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC - Masdar has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the 150MW Quipungo Solar Photovoltaic project in Angola, marking its first such agreement in the country. The Quipungo project is part of Project Royal Sable, a planned 500MW renewable energy program across three sites aimed at enhancing Angola's southern power grid and supporting sustainable development.
The agreement was signed with Rede Nacional de Transporte de Electricidade (RNT-EP) and witnessed by key officials during the IRENA General Assembly. The PPA ensures long-term electricity offtake from the site in Huila Province and lays the groundwork for the broader 500MW initiative, which is expected to create over 2,000 jobs and provide clean electricity to around 300,000 homes. Masdar aims to expand its renewable energy capacity in Africa, contributing to its goal of achieving 100GW global capacity by 2030.
