Mast Reforestation Sells Carbon Credits from Biomass Burial Project in Montana
Mast Reforestation has successfully buried over 4,500 metric tons of wildfire-killed trees in Montana, generating 4,277 carbon removal credits certified by Puro.earth. This project, part of a broader biomass burial initiative, aims to prevent carbon and methane release while funding reforestation efforts in areas affected by the 2021 Poverty Flats Fire.
The credits have been purchased by organizations including the Royal Bank of Canada and CNaught. Mast plans to scale its operations to handle 20,000 metric tons of biomass per project and aims for a total of 150,000 tons annually.
The company, originally launched as Droneseed in 2015, has expanded its services and technology, including drone-assisted reforestation. Monitoring of the burial site will continue for 100 years to ensure environmental integrity.
