Mat-Su Borough to Negotiate PILT Agreement for Alaska LNG Project
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough is set to negotiate a Payment-in-Lieu-of-Tax agreement for the Alaska LNG Project, with a public hearing scheduled for Feb. 17. Governor Mike Dunleavy supports this initiative, urging municipalities along the pipeline to address local tax concerns.

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough introduced a resolution to negotiate a Payment-in-Lieu-of-Tax (PILT) agreement with developers of the Alaska LNG Project during a borough assembly meeting on February 3. A public hearing is planned for February 17.
The PILT serves as an alternative to traditional property taxes based on property value. Governor Mike Dunleavy advocates for discussions on local tax issues related to the project. Borough manager Mike Brown is involved in an informal tax working group with other boroughs including North Slope, Fairbanks North Star, and Kenai.
