Mater Dei Hospital in Zimbabwe Commissions $810,000 Solar Power Plant
Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo has launched a $810,000 solar power plant on March 10, 2026, as part of the Zimbabwe Renewable Energy Programme. The installation, which includes a 750 kWp solar array and a 1 MWh battery storage system, aims to enhance energy resilience in healthcare by reducing reliance on the national grid. The project was financed by Old Mutual and supported by UN partners, including UNESCO, and is expected to generate over 1.3 million kWh annually.

On March 10, 2026, Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo commissioned a solar power plant valued at $810,000, aimed at improving energy resilience in the healthcare sector under the Zimbabwe Renewable Energy Programme. The facility features a 750 kWp solar array with over 1300 panels and a 1 MWh lithium battery energy storage system, addressing the hospital's average demand of 350 to 450 kW. Financed by Old Mutual Group and supported by UN partners, including UNESCO, the project is projected to generate more than 1.3 million kWh each year, enhancing energy security and reducing operational costs.
