McDermott to Build Oil Platform for Shell in Altamira, Mexico
McDermott has secured a contract with Shell to construct an oil platform in Altamira, Mexico, for a project in Trinidad and Tobago. The project, named Manatee, aims for completion within 24 months, involving 900 specialists. The platform will be a Normally Unmanned Installation weighing 4,600 tons, capable of producing up to 104,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The project signifies a revival of the metalworking industry in Tamaulipas after years of decline.

McDermott has been awarded a contract by Shell to build an oil platform in Altamira, Mexico, for the Manatee project in Trinidad and Tobago. Officially presented in June 2024, the project aims to complete the platform, a Normally Unmanned Installation (NUI) weighing 4,600 tons, within 24 months, requiring 900 specialists.
The platform will produce up to 104,000 barrels of oil equivalent daily. Shell will operate the structure, contributing to their goal of increasing liquefied natural gas business by 30% by 2030. The recruitment process has begun, focusing on skilled labor for the final stages of construction.
