MDA Space Launches 49North Defense Subsidiary in Ottawa with Joe Armstrong as President
MDA Space Ltd. has launched 49North, a wholly-owned subsidiary focused on defense capabilities for Canada. Headquartered in Ottawa, the company will operate under President Joe Armstrong, overseeing multi-domain command, control, communications, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems. 49North aims to enhance domestic defense capabilities and has roots in over five decades of Canadian defense delivery.

MDA Space Ltd. launched 49North, a subsidiary dedicated to defense capabilities for Canada, on February 19. Headquartered in Ottawa, 49North will focus on multi-domain command, control, communications, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems.
Joe Armstrong was appointed president and will report to CEO Mike Greenley. The subsidiary builds on MDA's experience as a prime contractor and aims to support Canada's national defense priorities. Recent contracts include support for the Canadian Armed Forces and a contract with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency.
