Mecosta County Advances Regional Recycling Management Plan
Mecosta County's Board of Commissioners approved a resolution enabling the Heartland Materials Management Plan development, part of a multi-county initiative. The plan aims to comply with Michigan's recycling regulations and enhance material recovery efforts by 2029.

On April 2, Mecosta County authorized the Heartland Materials Management Plan Committee to develop a regional recycling plan, as mandated by Michigan Public Act 115. A contract with Resource Recycling Systems Inc. for consulting services, costing approximately $340,000, was also approved; Mecosta County's share is $42,404, payable over 15 months.
The inter-local agreement, involving eight counties, aims to meet updated solid waste management policies and achieve a 30% recycling rate by 2029. The planned Materials Recovery Facility will be situated in Isabella County, requiring curbside pickup or drop-off locations for recyclable materials across the participating counties. This initiative may significantly impact regional waste management practices and compliance with state regulations.
