Merck Invests €20 Million in Metrology Site for Semiconductor Industry in France
Merck has inaugurated a €20 million metrology and inspection facility in France, enhancing production capacity fivefold. This expansion is crucial for chip manufacturers focusing on high-performance AI-driven semiconductors, aimed at bolstering the European semiconductor ecosystem.

Merck's new metrology and inspection site in Saint-Ismier, France, spans 4,500 m² and represents an investment of approximately €20 million. This facility will quintuple Merck's capacity to develop metrology systems that meet the semiconductor industry's demand for advanced chip production.
The site supports the packaging of AI chips and is located in the Grenoble region, a significant European semiconductor hub. The metrology systems will measure critical manufacturing parameters, while inspection systems will ensure quality and defect detection, ultimately enhancing manufacturing yields and reducing costs. Sustainability features include a straw-insulated structure and photovoltaic modules that supply 40% of the site's energy needs.
