Merdeka Copper Gold Implements Clean Energy at Pani Gold Mine
PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk (MDKA) has transitioned to using clean energy from Bakaru Hydroelectric Power Plant for its Pani Gold Mine operations. This move, effective January 1, 2026, supports the company's commitment to sustainable mining practices and aligns with its long-term decarbonization strategy.
PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk (MDKA) began utilizing clean energy from the Bakaru Hydroelectric Power Plant at its Pani Gold Mine in Gorontalo on January 1, 2026. This initiative includes purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) from PT PLN (Persero), allowing MDKA to expand renewable energy adoption in its operations.
The company's commitment to energy transition and environmental management aims to promote efficient and low-emission mining practices. Additionally, MDKA has integrated solar panel systems at its Wetar Copper Mine and SCM Nickel Mine in Sulawesi and mandated the use of B40 fuel across all subsidiaries.
In 2025, the SCM Nickel Mine achieved a fuel savings of 563,293 liters. MDKA has also reclaimed 49.60 hectares of land and rehabilitated 6,084 hectares of river basin areas. These efforts have secured MDKA an 'A' rating in MSCI ESG Ratings for three consecutive years, marking it as a leader in sustainability within Indonesia's diversified metals and mining sector.
