Mersey Tidal Power Project to Include Flood Defense and Low Carbon Energy
The Mersey Tidal Power project is set to prioritize flood protection along with low carbon electricity generation due to increasing flood risks in the Mersey estuary. The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority will review this shift on January 23, aiming for the tidal barrage to defend infrastructure and habitats while generating up to one gigawatt of electricity in line with the region's Climate Action Plan. Currently in Phase 4 development, the full business case is expected by 2030.
