Mersey Tidal Power Project to Include Flood Defense and Low Carbon Energy
DEFENSE
The Mersey Tidal Power project will evolve to focus on flood protection alongside low carbon electricity generation, following studies indicating rising flood risks in the Mersey estuary. The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority will consider this change on 23 January.
The tidal barrage aims to provide defense for infrastructure and habitats, generating up to one gigawatt of electricity while aligning with the region's Climate Action Plan. Currently in Phase 4 development, the full business case is anticipated by 2030.
