DEFENSE

On December 22, 2025, a Mexican Navy medical aircraft, a Beechcraft Super King Air 350, crashed into Galveston Bay during a humanitarian mission, resulting in five fatalities, including a 2-year-old burn victim. The aircraft, which was transporting severely burned children to Shriners Children's Hospital in Galveston, went down in dense fog shortly before 3:00 p.m. after departing from Mérida, Mexico.

Eight people were on board, comprising four Navy crew members and four civilians. Two survivors were rescued, one sustaining serious injuries. Emergency response teams, including the US Coast Guard and local authorities, conducted a search in challenging conditions, with one person still missing.

The flight was organized by the Michou y Mau Foundation, dedicated to facilitating medical evacuations for children with life-threatening burns. The cause of the crash is under investigation, with fog likely contributing to the incident.
