MicroAGI Launches Free Cleaning Service in NYC for AI Training Data Collection
MicroAGI's Shift app offers free apartment cleaning services in NYC, capturing first-person video footage for AI training. This model aims to address the lack of real-world visual data required for developing advanced robotics, though privacy concerns and economic sustainability may pose challenges.

MicroAGI, a startup based in Munich, launched its Shift app on May 28, providing free professional cleaning services in New York City. Each cleaner is equipped with a head-mounted camera that records their activities, and this footage is anonymized for use in training AI systems.
The company has built a contributor network of over 10,000 operators across 15 countries, paid approximately $20 per hour to capture daily tasks. This method addresses a significant data gap in robotics, as physical AI lacks the extensive datasets available for text and images. However, privacy issues and the sustainability of the free service model raise questions about the long-term viability of MicroAGI's approach.
